Dr. Hasan Kwame Jeffries is a native of Brooklyn, New York, he received his B.A. in history from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia in 1994, his M.A. in American history from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina in 1997, and his Ph.D. in twentieth century American history from Duke University in 2002. Dr. Jeffries will discuss the use of the term “uppity and black folks” and the education of ex-slaves immediately after the civil war.
